Long Black Train


A native of Hannah, SC, deep-voiced Josh Turner burst onto the country scene in 2003 with the powerful "Long Black Train," a song Turner had written after listening to a Hank Williams box set. Sounding like a gospel-blues out of the '40s, "Long Black Train" wrestles with the grand themes of temptation, salvation, death, and redemption, and the song quickly brought Turner national media attention. His first album, Long Black Train, produced by Frank Rogers, was released by MCA in 2003. Prior to the album release, Turner had issued two 7" vinyl singles, "She'll Go on You" and "Long Black Train," both backed with the same B-side, "Backwoods Boy."
