On Monday, President Donald Trump signed two executive orders aimed at National Monuments in Utah. The orders return power over the land back to the state and reduces the size of the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante monuments.
Right before leaving office, former-President Barack Obama set aside nearly 1.5 million acres in Utah for the Bears Ears National Monument. Trump’s move reduces the monument by 85% and, he says, puts the power over the land back in the hands of the Utahns, instead of “very distant” Washington bureaucrats.
