The Blackhorse Association Newsletter January/Febuary, 2010 edition

Happy New Year! Another great year as we continue to revitalize our Blackhorse Association. It's been a pleasure to work with the outstanding Officers, Directors and Staff provided me by the membership last year. And, I am ever so pleased to report that because of their efforts, the state of the Association is "Good".

Please read carefully the following capsule of the status of programs and activities of your Association.

  1. Scholarship- We currently have seven active and funded scholarships in force. With your continued support, we anticipate awarding ten to fifteen scholarships this year. NOTICE---Applicants should start now preparing applications to insure they are received by the scholarship committee by 1 April 2010. All requirements with printable application forms may be found on our website here. For questions, contact Pete Walter, Director of Scholarships at basepiece70@verizon.net.
  2. Reunions- Our 9 - 13 June 2010 Houston Reunion is shaping up to be one of our finest. Outstanding array of activities, interesting speakers (Hal Fritz our Medal of Honor Winner will keynote the banquet on Saturday evening), golf at the Blackhorse Country Club, motorcycle parade and the committee has commissioned a special Regimental print portraying the history of the Regiment-----all for this special Blackhorse Family Reunion. Details may be found on our website at www.blackhorse.org under the "Programs/Reunion" link or go directly to the committee's website at www.blackhorse.com. If questions, contact Glenn Allardyce, Director at Large at ranger70@comcast.net. And ladies, I almost forgot, we will be in the Galleria area so shopping will be great.
  3. Newsletter- Watch for your mailing of "The Blackhorse" in the next weeks. Gene Johnson, Director of Memberships and Editor of The Blackhorse encourages your input for publication. He may be contacted at gene.johnson@blackhorse.org. The Blackhorse is also published electronically and can be downloaded by clicking here. If you would prefer the electronic version, contact Gene ----we recommend this since it will save on the very expensive printing and mailing of our paper newsletter.
  4. Communications- We continue to improve our website at www.blackhorse.org. Notice that more of our units have been added to our "Blackhorse Units" link and we eagerly await your input for each unit. Input should be sent to Greg Hallmark, Director of Communications at greg@designpathmedia.com. Remember, to protect our standing as a 501 3 non-profit, charitable organization, we must remain apolitical. And, our Blackhorse standard is, if we would not want our kids to read it, we don't publish it. Greg also publishes our monthly Blackhorse E-News email material. If you would like to receive our monthly sitreps, email Greg with your email address and he will add you to the address book. This communication program requires that you permit us to add your email address to our address book which now contains over 3,500 of our members. Greg has just recently added another means for members to establish and maintain contact-----It's called CavLand. Visit CavLand.com to join. It's free. In typical Cavalry fashion, we must be able to communicate to accomplish our mission.
  5. Fundraising- Your annual 1901 Club donation letters should be reaching your mailboxes any day now. We are asking that you consider purchasing the five tickets at $20 each and returning your donation in the envelope provided. We are working hard to get 10% of our 19,100 members to commit to $100 a year. This effort funds all our operations and excess funds may be moved to the scholarship fund. Scholarship funding is being accomplished mostly through the Allons Club and through the generous donations of a member who wishes to remain anonymous. Our goal here is to find 100 members from our 19,100 members who will commit to $1000 a year for four years. We currently have 31 members donating at this level. Scholarship funds are restricted to that use only where operating funds may be used to fund either operations or scholarships. Your Blackhorse Association is unique among most non-profit, charitable organizations---your Officers, Directors and Staff serve as volunteers and receive no remuneration. So 100% of your donations go to our missions.

WE NEED YOUR TIME, TALENT AND TREASURE TO HELP INSURE THE BLACKHORSE ASSOCIATION LIVES ON TO SUPPORT FUTURE GENERATIONS OF OUR BLACKHORSE FAMILY.

ALLONS! and BLACKHORSE FOREVER!

John Sherman Crow

President
